Not procrastinating at all
It's Friday, have a question meme!
1. Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?
They remain in a state of permanent "however the last entity to access the closets left them" - i.e. I close them, unless there's a suitcase or pile of clothes resting on the floor of the closet in the way, Abhi leaves them open unless the dogs have been making dog-nests out of the pile of clothes (in which case he nudges the clothes in enough to shut the closet doors). Because he's heartless like that.
The dogs push the doors open with their noses if there's a crack so they can sleep on our clothes.
We're all adults here, and this isn't at all an indicator for how the rest of this meme shall go.
2: Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotel?
If they're fancy-pants bottles I do! And then our guests get to use them when they come visit us, and see what sort of shampoos they might get if they were to stay in a hotel instead of crashing at our place.
(When we were staying in upscale places in India during our quasi-honeymoon the bathroom supplies for guests came with combs and hail oil and razors and baby powder and all sorts of crazy things. You better believe I took those - and only the guests I really like get access.)
3: Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?
I'm chronically incapable of (a) making a bed and (b) having a bed that is made stay made once I sleep in it. I'm lucky if the fitted sheet stays tucked in, most nights, and we've given up on using our flat sheets - we just go European duvet-style in our bedding.
4: Have you ever stolen a street sign before?
Nope.
5: Do you like to use post-it notes?
I liked to mark important sections of my books with post-it notes when I was in college, but that's about it.
6: Do you cut out coupons but then never use them?
Okay, so, I am one of those people who loves to create organizational systems, and then ignore them once the system creation is done. One particularly uninspired Saturday I once created a googledocs spreadsheet of all of the "good" coupons with columns for what you got off and use-by dates and, yeah. Never used.
I'm only like that sometimes.
7: Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of a bees?
Totally situation & species dependent! Unless they're killer bees, I'm going with a swarm. One of my oh-so-clever dogs jumped on a ground hive of wasps a year ago when we were out on a hike, and the whole party had to run for safety, and it worked out pretty okay? Stings all around, but you deal. But black bears are better than killer bees, I think - black bears 'round these parts are normally just looking for food, so you just gotta offer up your backpacks and then go hide behind a rock.
Grizzles are just a no go.
8: Do you have freckles?
No, but I get brown sun spots, courtesy of my French grandmother.
9: Do you always smile for pictures?
I guess? I'm really not photogenic - my eyes are always closed, and I end up smiling weird if I know the camera is there.
10: What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who don't put any thought into what they're saying or their opinions. Yeah, classic intellectual introvert peeve.
11: Do you ever count your steps when you walk?
No, but I sometimes avoid stepping on cracks (holes are okay - my mom doesn't have a sugar bowl).
12: Have you ever peed in the woods?
Yes, sometimes under heavy fire from mosquitoes and without toilet paper, even.
13: What about pooped in the woods?
Remember: dig your hole first.
14: Do you ever dance even if theres no music playing?
Well, normally no music playing + me dancing = me belting something out without any respect to tone or lyrics beyond a line or two... Does that count?
15: Do you chew on pens & pencils?
Occasionally? But it's more absentminded than ferocious with teeth marks.
16: How many people have you slept with this week?
Hah, of course I would get this question this week. So, um, four friends + Abhi on one big futon is the record. We cuddled like drunken puppies after a very long night out in NYC.
17: What size is your bed?
Queen. My dad had a California King he was trying to get rid of, and I had THOUGHTS, but those things are just too massive, and I'm not sure if it'd fit in our bedroom, to be honest.
18: What is your song of the week?
Sorry, to tell would be giving away STBB fanmix spoilers.
19: Is it okay for guys to wear pink?
Sure! Abhi pulls off pink very nicely - the paler shades. But the right guy can totally go neon.
20: Do you still watch cartoons?
Sure, although I tend to not be in fandoms for them. I'll watch Avatar the Last Airbender whenever, and I download My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic to watch with my niece.
21: Whats your least favorite movie?
Do people really devote brainspace to remembering this? No idea.
22: Where would you bury hidden treasure if you had some?
I discovered a way to access the space behind 280 (a local freeway) between the sound barrier and people's backyards when I was a kid. It seems like an ideal space: unlikely to get dug up, private enough that no one would notice fresh dirt, easy to remember, and easily accessible in the future.
If you have any treasure to hide, feel free to send it to me.
23: What do you drink with dinner?
Water. Tea. Two-buck Chuck. Red Stripe. Sometimes even decent wine! Totally depends on my mood.
24: What do you dip a chicken nugget in?
If I've made a trip to the East Coast recently (i.e. this week), Chickfila Sauce. Stuff's got crack in it, I swear. Otherwise, sweet & sour or ketchup.
25: What is your favorite food?
Sushi, unless I'm within driving distance of a Chickfila and it's not Sunday. If I'm looking for comfort food, it's pho (steak on the side, please) or a Mysore Masala dosa. Comfort food = spicy, warm, and filling.
26: What movies could you watch over and over and still love?
I'd say Disney/Pixar films, but that'd probably come back to haunt me once I have a kid. So, um, Love Actually or Boondock Saints. Or Star Trek - I've watched that movie more times than I'm comfortable disclosing.
27: Last person you kissed/kissed you?
Abhi.
28: Were you ever a boy/girl scout?
Nope. The craft stuff girl scouts got up to always sounded so boring, but I think I would have enjoyed the outdoor aspects. And collecting all those badges! Gotta collect them all!
29: Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine?
Hmm, yeah, probably, if it was tastefully done and I was well compensated? Like, very well compensated! I don't know, it doesn't seem like the sort of thing that'll ever actually happen, so I haven't really thought through it.
30: When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?
Like, a proper letter, not a scribble on a card or a note left on the table? Probably some pen pal in school, I guess.
31: Can you change the oil on a car?
I never have, but I guess I could? I'm pretty decent at following instructions, and I once replaced the power steering belt on Sebastian, my old 1990 Mercury Sable. Having the power steering belt snap on your car while in the middle of a left turn? Not fun.
32: Ever gotten a speeding ticket?
No - I've been pulled over once, but I blushed & stammered my way out of it.
33: Ever ran out of gas?
No, but it's come down to the wire a few times. When I was a kid we lived up on this big hill, and there was a gas station about a mile before the house. My dad used to delight in not stopping to get gas when we were in the red and teasing my brother and I about pushing the car up the hill when we ran out of gas. I don't think we were ever close to actually running out, but when I was 5 this was a real concern.
34: Favorite kind of sandwich?
BLAT on Dutch Crunch. Bonus points if you can substitute sprouts for lettuce.
35: Best thing to eat for breakfast?
Plain nonfat Greek yogurt + frozen blueberries + a bit of granola for crunch. Best thing ever, seriously.
36: What is your usual bedtime?
Somewhere between 10 & midnight - I have to get up at 5 am for work.
37: Are you lazy?
Yup.
38: When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween?
It changed, of course. I was a ghost once... with a pumpkin head? My mom sewed on demand, and apparently I wanted a pumpkin on my head. And I was a unicorn one year. And Raphael, the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle ever.
39: What is your Chinese astrological sign?
Ox. And I'm a Taurus as well.
40: How many languages can you speak?
1.75? Fluent in English, formally fluent in German (but ueber-rusty now), and I'm studying Hindi & Bengali irregularly.
41: Do you have any magazine subscriptions?
Backpacker is the only current one now, I think. I love getting magazine subscriptions, to be honest. I mean, it's like $15 a year & then you get 12 fun things in the mail! And sometimes a tote bag.
42: Which are better legos or lincoln logs?
Legos. Lincoln logs were boring! How is this even a question?
43: Are you stubborn?
See question 39.
44: Who is better...Leno or Letterman?
Don't watch late-night anything, unless last night's dvr'd Daily Show counts.
45: Ever watch soap operas?
Naw.
46: Are you afraid of heights?
Nope. I'm kind of morbid about them, but not in a scared way, and I enjoy the views.
47: Do you sing in the car?
Only always.
48: Do you sing in the shower?
Not really. Showers are for thinking deep thoughts.
49: Do you dance in the car?
More if I'm in the passenger seat than if I'm the driver, but, yeah, it happens.
50: Ever used a gun?
Once, when I was around 10. *shrug* Seemed okay.
51: Last time you got a portrait taken by a photographer?
I got dragged down to the mall to shoot some family photos when Abhi's sister & family was visiting from India - but there weren't any individual pictures there, just family and couples. By myself, I'd guess high school.
52: Do you think musicals are cheesy?
Uh, no? What's wrong with musicals? Do people hate on musicals regularly?
53: Is Christmas stressful?
I don't exactly skip Christmas, but I try to keep it low-key. Small presents, small tree. It helps that Abhi didn't grow up celebrating. I think we're going to try to escape to Tahoe the day after 'til New Years, this year, and if I had more guts, we'd leave before Christmas day.
54: Ever eat a pierogi?
Yes - but I had to google it first. My high school boyfriend was from a Russian Jewish family, and I always used to go over to his house after school to play cards and munch on whatever his mother had cooked. She didn't speak much English, but was an absolute card shark and an awesome cook.
55: Favorite type of fruit pie?
I almost answered apple before remembering that king of pies, strawberry-rhubarb.
56: Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid?
Well, vet, initially, like probably 80% of girls. Then mathematician. Then economist.
57: Do you believe in ghosts?
Nope. I'm not quite a materialist, philosophically, but I'm close. Until there's some decent proof of ghosts, I'll remain skeptical. Your mind is great at tricking itself.
58: Ever have a Deja-vu feeling?
Yeah, pretty regularly. I guess my life is repetative?
59: Take a vitamin daily?
I really should, but somehow I always forget. Which is weird, because I have medication that I have to take nightly, and I rarely forget it.
60: Wear slippers?
I'm a thick sock person.
61: Wear a bath robe?
No, I just use a towel and/or run around naked looking for my jeans.
62: What do you wear to bed?
Uh, it varies? Mostly shorts and a t-shirt, but sometimes more (when it's cold I'll even pull out the socks) and sometimes less.
63: First concert?
Ozfest. It was... an experience.
64: Wal-Mart, Target or Kmart?
Target, then Walmart, then Kmart. I've gotten some really cute clothes at Target, actually.
65: Nike or Adidas?
Whatever fits, looks decent, and is the cheapest.
66: Cheetos Or Fritos?
Oh, god, Cheetos so much. Puffy. I have an addiction that was UNDER CONTROL until a roommate introduced me to the Mike's brand cheese puffs, and then it was all downhill again.
67: Peanuts or Sunflower seeds?
Pumpkin seeds!
68: Ever hear of the group Tres Bien?
Nope. And they aren't on Flavorwires's 10 French Bands Everyone Should Know, so I'm calling either pretentious non-French band or pretentious indie music question.
69: Ever take dance lessons?
We did line dancing on Fridays in gym class in middle school... does that count? I kinda enjoyed it. I've thought about it a few times, because Abhi loves to dance, but, eh, I'm massively uncoordinated.
70: Is there a profession you picture your future spouse doing?
I have a current spouse, and he's a product manager. He loves it and is good at it, so no complaints.
71: Can you curl your tongue?
Yup, I got that gene. I can also touch my nose with my tongue!
72: Ever won a spelling bee?
AHAHAHAHAHA.
I was decent at geography bees, though.
73: Have you ever cried because you were so happy?
Yeah, I think so. I mean, I don't recall doing so, but I cry easily so I'd expect I have.
74: Own any record albums?
No, but my dad has a nice collection that I've been eyeing. WHEN YOU GO, POPS!
75: Own a record player?
Nope.
76: Regularly burn incense?
Yeah. We have a small table set up with various gods, and I'll put incense in there regularly and take a moment to just stop and collect. It's very hippy-dippy, but Abhi's culturally a Hindu and I technically converted during our marriage ceremony, so I'll just point to that as justification. Yeah.
77: Ever been in love?
Yup.
78: Who would you like to see in concert?
Beach House. Mumford & Sons. Elbow. The Lucksmiths, if they hadn't broken up. You can feel free to call me a hipster now, if you like, but I'm not pretentious about indie music, really! I mean, I don't enjoy those mashups ironically or anything.
79: What was the last concert you saw?
Outside Lands festival, which was excellent.
80: Hot tea or cold tea?
Hot, always, even if it's boiling outside.
81: Tea or coffee?
Nonfat extra-hot latte with an extra shot to start my day, followed by a large cup of tea every hour. I'd drink coffee instead of tea, but I'd end up crazy-wired and our office has Starbucks coffee which tastes like poop.
82: Sugar or snickerdoodles?
Snickerdoodle! I need to get my grandmother's recipe sometime.
83: Can you swim well?
Yeah, I really enjoy the water. Like, I can't remember learning how to swim, that's how young I was. And I was on my school's swim team. And I used to race sailboats with my dad. And I surf. So, yeah, water is awesome.
84: Can you hold your breath without holding your nose?
Yes, but not for long.
85: Are you patient?
Depends on the situation. Is there a reason that I ought to be patient, or did someone fuck up somewhere?
86: DJ or band, at a wedding?
Um, whatever the couple prefer. We went camping with our friends after our civil ceremony, so it wasn't really a pertinent question in our wedding planning.
87: Ever won a contest?
I've gotten scholarships... and I won a free medium fry from McDonald's last week... *shrug* Yay McDonald's Monopoly thing, you make me feel like a winner?
88: Ever have plastic surgery?
Nope.
89: Which are better black or green olives?
Green are okay in a dirty martini, but I'm not a huge fan in general.
90: Can you knit or crochet?
Nope.
91: Best room for a fireplace?
Living room or (if we're dreaming) library.
92: Do you want to get married?
Already am.
93: If married, how long have you been married?
We're closing in on 5 years. *boggles*
94: Who was your HS crush?
Matt Damon. He's still on my, erm, list.
95: Do you cry and throw a fit until you get your own way?
No, but I can get sulky.
96: Do you have kids?
Nope.
97: Do you want kids?
Eventually! Right now we have two dogs, and that's about all the responsibility we're cut out for. Clock's ticking, though, since I need to have kids before 30 if at all possible because of a medical condition. But adoption's also on the table, so. *shrug*
98: Whats your favorite color?
Green.
99: Do you miss anyone right now?
My best friend is in England right now, and going through a crazy bad breakup, so I really wish I could be there for her. Thank god for skype.
